Gretchen Vault

Head Porter, Big Game Hunter & Specimen Wrangler for The College

A brute. A snobbish, articulate, intelligent brute, but a brute none the less. She never knew her parents, and was raised by the College’s porters, by whom Gretchen was found (on the doorstep of the Inter-Racial Possibilities Department). Her childhood was spent completely within the College, raised mostly by the Porters, but sometimes by the lecturers and students too. It was evident she was stronger and tougher than most girls her age, and more intelligent too - often sneaking into lectures. She had both a knack and love for animals - mostly rendering them unconscious on demand. Soon she was old enough to work for the College, and did a shining job too, bringing back all sorts of artifacts and beasts on demand.

Now, she is easily into her 40th year. There are more departments, and other hunters. She feels her age coming on, and her biological clock too. In short, Gretchen's not only old, she's broody. In a way, she wants to take it out on the world.

Gretchen is quite obviously Troll Blooded. Seven feet, rippling muscles, upturned nose, rough skin, jutting teeth. But she's still pretty in a Body-Builder Librarian kind of way, hair-pulled back in a bunch and small glasses. She drinks reflexively from a hip flask, and has a snorty laugh. She sees herself as upper-class, despite any reason to think so. Just better than everyone else. Her armour is rigid leather over silk blouse and thick jodhpurs and boots, her chest armour like a bodice. She may wear a head-scarf.

Recent Events

  • Leading a College expedition into The Great Western Forest, Gretchen captured a VineChild, planning to bring her back to The College for study. Instead, the VineChild was freed by a group of Adventurers, and Gretchen was rendered unconscious while interrogating Sra'em Yar. Unfortunately, Gretchen (following a planted letter from the other Adventurers) fell head over heels for the big, strong Sra. Challenging him to combat, she won - disappointed, but willing to wait for him to better her, Gretchen has patience. She has agreed to give up drinking for her “beloved”.
