Background

Arashi was the only child of an Eastern blood sorceress and swordswoman in service to the Crimson Queen. She never knew who her father was but being raised in a fiercely matriarchal soceity this scarely mattered. She was raised as an upstanding member of the martial class and taught to value honour highly. Her mother was killed in a skirmish with the King Who Waits forces and she was then taken in by one of her mother's peers, a samurai by the name of Kusanagi, in order to complete her training. She developed feelings for the much older man but her sense of honour prevented her from acting upon them. When the Prince of the East travelled west in the company of the initially rather pitiable army of the Red Griffin , Kusanagi attempted to council the Crimson Queen against allowing him to do so. It seemed like the Queen might have taken heed of his council had his old adversery, Seichirou, not intervened. Seichirou saw the conquest of the western barbarians as an opportunity for him to accumulate personal power and murdered Kusanagi in order to prevent him from stopping the Prince of the East's crusade. Kusanagi sent Arashi away before his death in order to save her life and upon discovering what had happened she vowed to cross the Waste of the Rose and discover what had become of Seichirou and the Prince of the East. Her quest for vengence earned her the favour of the Lord of the Tower of Heroes, known to her as the Baron of the Glorious Dead. She was followed westwards by a peasent called Azuma, who she had once rescued from a group of attackers and who she recognised as a fellow priest of the Lord.

A few years after the Battle against the Red Griffin Arashi finally made her way to the White City. She was horrified to learn that the Prince of the East, who had been known in her homeland as 'the small dog with a loud bark' had amassed himself a substantial army and threatened the White City. Putting her quest on hold in order to impriove her personal strength she did a number of services for the White City and the Burned Lords. She briefly worked with Federico and Jenevive Velasquez but became increasingly alienated from the Velasquez after witnessing Jenevive and others murder the former head of the house, Chiara Velasquez. She also joined the High Guard as High Captain Silvio Cristofori's bodyguard and perhaps recognising something of her old master became attracted to him. Although she suspected that he might requite her feelings, she determined that it would not be appropriate for her to have a relationship with a noble.

Arashi was able to finally enact her vengence when Seichirou returned to the east, having made allies in the Empire of the Unbound in the Far West. His allies had crafted for him the Exarchs of Justice, Honour and Loyalty and had named him such that he might only be harmed by one to whom he owed a blood debt (his names having all being styled for the eastern concept of honour). He brought an army and attempted to take advantage of the instability in the City of Lights and thus crown himself the King in Purple. Arashi duelled him in single combat but was wounded by one of his necromantic blades. The wound was briefly suppressed by an anti-ash potion given to her by Theodore Luxfrey but the power of the necromantic weapons was too great and her wound proved fatal. The blades were commended to the flame by Anvil and Proyas delivered the last rites as Arashi's body slowly crumbled to ash. The breeze carried her remains to her Lord's domain. In the White City her personal affects were left to Silvio Cristofori. Arashi's soul now resides in a place of honour as a former High Priestess in the Tower of Heroes.
